So what does cause snoring? Snoring occurs when we sleep and sleep takes up almost one-third or more of the average human's life so that means that half of our life time we spend sleeping and resting. We all know that sleeping and rest is required by our body so that it can function properly. However there are people who cannot sleep and rest properly because of snoring. The snorer may either be themselves or a loved one or worst a neighbor.

Snoring is divided into two categories: Obstructive sleep apnea and Primary snoring. Obstructive sleep apnea is a common sleep apnea caused by obstruction of the airway. It is characterized by pauses in breathing during sleep. These episodes, called apneas (literally, "without breath"), each last long enough that one or more breaths are missed, and occur repeatedly throughout sleep. In obstructive sleep apnea, breathing is interrupted by a physical block to airflow, despite the effort to breathe. This is the type of snoring that leaves the affected person tired during the times when he is awake. This type are the one's that causes accidents to the person due to sleepiness and lack of energy.

Primary Snoring is also known as simple snoring, snoring without sleep apnea, noisy breathing during sleep, benign snoring, rhythmical snoring and continuous snoring is characterized by loud upper airway breathing sounds in sleep without episodes of apnea (cessation of breath). This is the type of snoring we are all familiar with, the common victims of this type of snoring is not the snorers them selves but the people around them.
Now that we know what snoring is, what can we do to stop snoring? There are a few methods that are used today to stop snoring. One sure fire way to stop snoring is to lose weight, if you are overweight, you have a tendency to snore because of the fat blocking your throat. Another way is to use dental appendages like chin straps, well this works but you are mostly conscious about your snoring when you're not sleeping in your house, right?
